I’m not sold yet on this afterthought heel. I’m giving it a fair shot. Two more pairs and I’ll know if it’s for me. I do like the look of it and it fits me well. I also like that you can easily redo the heel if it wears out.
I followed the instructions in the videos made by KnitPurlHunter. I watch her videos quite a bit. She gives clear instructions and is open to questions by the viewer. Check her out.

Nice socks! I did a couple of afterthoughts. Basically knitting a toe, so that wasn’t a problem. The two issues I had were working the open stitches back on needles. I like tight knit socks, so that made it harder. And it doesn’t solve the gusset hole problem. There just doesn’t seem to be a heel that totally takes care of that. There isn’t a sock I have knit that I haven’t had to do some fudging on at the heel, and I’ve knit a lot of socks. To be fair, haven’t tried Cat’s Sweet Tomato Heel so maybe a solution there. For self striping, I’ve gone to FLK.

Same here. Picking up is always difficult for me. It’s because I’m never quite sure of what I’m doing
Flk and the sweet tomato are on my list to learn. So many options!

I don’t know if you’ve seen this video. I don’t think I ever tried it, but thought it was a good idea. At least your stitches are already on needles before you start cutting into things.

Thanks. I will definitely take a look.

It’s a good idea. The heels sometimes wear out before the rest of the sock.

Yes, that is true. This is a good technique for that.
